( Details ) ISBN: 0399149864 Published: February 2003 | Published by Putnam & Grosset From the Publisher Cayce Pollard is an expensive, spookily intuitive market-research consultant. In London on a job, she is offered a secret assignment: to investigate some intriguing snippets of video that have been appearing on the Internet. An entire subculture of people is obsessed with these bits of footage, and anybody who can create that kind of brand loyalty would be a gold mine for Cayce's client. But when her borrowed apartment is burgled and her computer hacked, she realizes there's more to this project than she had expected. Still, Cayce is her father's daughter, and the danger makes her stubborn. Win Pollard, ex-security expert, probably ex-CIA, took a taxi in the direction of the World Trade Center on September 11 one year ago, and is presumed dead. Win taught Cayce a bit about the way agents work. She is still numb at his loss, and, as much for him as for any other reason, she refuses to give up this newly weird job, which will take her to Tokyo and on to Russia. With help and betrayal from equally unlikely quarters, Cayce will follow the trail of the mysterious film to its source, and in the process will learn something about her father's life and death. After finishing ‘Pattern Recognition’, however, I came to the realization that our present – the world we live in – is just as strange as science fiction, especially through the eyes of Gibson. Pattern Recognition is a poetic and eloquently realized look at the life of a modern woman – Cayce Pollard – who lives a modern life in a post 9-11 world. At once topical and refreshing, the storyline takes our heroine from the “mirror world” of London, to Tokyo (who needs Cyberpunk when we already have Tokyo!) and Moscow on the trail of an internet phenomenon known only as “the footage”. Along the way, we are treated to many masterfully-described settings, each painted with Gibson’s unique brush that made me love his previous works. The story is enthralling, the characters are real and very unique and, best of all, it’s all se Info Desk iREWARDS Program About Our Company Affiliate Opportunities Careers Contact Us Corporate Sales Gift Certificates Privacy Policy Shipping Rates Store Locations Wish List chapters.indigo.ca: books Shopping Bag | Account Centre | Wish List | Help iREWARDS Program | Corporate Sales | Store Locations All Products Books DVD Video Gifts Books Advanced Search Search Tips About this Book From the Publisher Reader Reviews Browse Books Art and Architecture Audiobooks Biography & Memoir Business and Finance Children's Books Computers Entertainment Family and Relationships Fiction and Literature Food and Drink Health and Well Being History Home and Garden Mystery and Suspense Reference and Language Religion and Spirituality Romance Science and Nature Science Fiction and Fantasy Social and Cultural Studies Sports Travel Coles Notes .
